Joseph “MoJo” Leslie Hamke, 62, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 19th, 2024 at 5:31am at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha Nebraska in the company of his family. Joseph Leslie Hamke Joe, 62, passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2024 @ 5:31am at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha Nebraska in the company of his family. Joe was born on November 14th, 1961, in Blair, Nebraska. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1983 where he served as a hull maintenance technician on the U.S.S Hector (AR-7) PACFLT HP out of Oakland, California. Joe was honorably discharged from active duty due to illness in June 1986. After his service in the military, Joe to returned home to Nebraska where he spent the rest of his life. He was a welder by trade, but a fisherman and hunter at heart. Mojo, Sir Joseph, Joe Joe, Grandpa Joe and Papa are on the short list of nicknames given to him by the people he loved to spend his time with. In his carefree pursuit of joy and happiness Joe had many interests. You could usually find Joe spending time at the river, where he could enjoy nature, family, and friends. He was always perfecting his art of barbeque, exercising his right to bear arms, or roaming the roads on his treasured motorcycle. In October 2009, Joe and Dawn were united in marriage and they settled in Omaha. Joe was a devoted husband who loved spending time and making memories with Dawn and their family. Joe had many blessings, one of his most cherished was his role as a grandfather to his three grandchildren. He would not hesitate to brag about them any chance he got. Joes message for life to all he knew was, “Just put your head down and lean into it!” He is survived by his wife Dawn Hamke, her children, Brandon Willis (Katherine); Jamilynn Willis Vines; his grandchildren Avery Brynn, Cole Grayson, and Avalyn Grace; brothers Paul (Laura) Hamke; Carl (Kaylene) Hamke; John (Jana) Hamke; sister Laurie (Max) Harris; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Lola (Swingholm) Hamke; and his brother Phillip Richard Hamke. A Celebration of life visitation will be held Wednesday September 25, 2024, from 6-8pm Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, 444 S 17th St, Blair Ne 68008. The viewing will be open to the public at 1:00pm on Wednesday for those who wish to pay their respects. Military graveside services will be held at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd, Omaha Ne, 68138, Thursday October 26, 2024 at 11:00AM.
