Titus "John" Shotwell Obituary (2014)

Titus “John” Shotwell age 83, of Blair, died Saturday January 18th, 2014 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday January 22nd, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Titus “John” Shotwell was born May 31st, 1930 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Titus and Evelyn Grace (Barrett) Shotwell. After he graduated from high school he attended college and the served in the United States Military stationed in Alaska. In 1960 he was united in marriage to Betty Sparby. The couple was married for 24 years until her passing in 1984. On January 19th, 1985 he was united in marriage to Evelyn “Maxine” Schneider. In 1977 he moved to Blair and started the Blair Glass Company. He worked in the glass business most of his life and retired in 1990 after selling the business. After his retirement he continued working. He drove school bus for 12 years, for years he volunteered at the recycle center 6 days a week, and for the last several years worked as a delivery driver for Shopko Pharmacy. John served as a Blair City Councilman for 20 years, and on the Board of Directors for Crowell Home for 12 years, he held several offices at the First United Methodist Church in Blair, and was a member of the Herman American Legion Post #274, and was a member of the Masons. John is survived by his step-daughters, Camilla Conner and Karen Andreasen, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Emma Jean Haley of California, several nieces, nephews, friends, and his faithful companion Max. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Shotwell, wife Evelyn “Maxine” Shotwell, brother George Showell and his sister Selma Roddell.
