Rutherford "Rudy" Orrin Sims Obituary (1930

On September 10, Rutherford (Rudy) Orrin Sims, husband, father of four, grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of five, passed away at the age of 89. Rudy was born on December 23, 1930 to Lyndall and Eva (Missildine) Sims. He spent most of his childhood in Galva, Iowa and graduated from Galva Community School in 1948. Following high school, he attended Omaha Business School. Rudy proudly served his country by completed a tour of duty in Korea, returning in 1953. He married Shirley (Rupp) on December 1, 1956. Rudy spent most of his adult life in Schaller, working for Consolidated Popcorn until the plant closed in 1988 and serving as the City Clerk for 31 years. He loved the town and the people; attending his children’s activities at the Schaller Community School, serving on the library board, playing in multiple bridge clubs, being a longtime member of the VFW and legion, and even getting in a poker game now and then. When he wasn’t in Schaller, you were likely to find him on the golf course in Alta where he spent many happy days playing golf with friends and family. Rudy is preceded in death by his mother, Eva. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his four children Jeff Sims (Patti) of LaVista, NE; Bob Sims (Kim) of Blair, NE; Michele Lucas (Joe) of Lake St. Louis, MO; and Mike Sims (Doyle Monsma) of Des Moines, IA; and seven grandchildren Lindsey Hermann (Josh), Tyler Sims (Jami), Jackie Konwinski (Josh), Nick Sims, Hannah Lucas, Ben Lucas, Kate Lucas; and five great-grandchildren Wade Sims, Whitley Sims, Weston Sims, Addilyn Konwinski, and Lane Konwinski. Graveside services will be held at the Schaller Catholic Cemetery on Friday, September 18th, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Rudy’s name to the Schaller Library and the Schaller Park using the address: Theresa Bailey, City Clerk, P.O.
