Eleanor (O'Hanlon) Noble Obituary (1919

Funeral Service for Eleanor Lutz O’Hanlon Noble will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church, 1656 Colfax Street, Blair, NE. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Blair. Ellie passed away on March 27 at Crowell Home in Blair at the age of 93. Eleanor Lutz was born June 17, 1919 in Council Bluffs, IA, the only child of John and Maude Stupfell Lutz. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1937. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. While there, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Her pledge sisters became life-long friends, keeping in touch via a Round Robin letter and meeting in Lincoln every five years for a reunion. In 2008, they celebrated 70 years as Kappas. On October 18, 1941 she married Clark O’Hanlon of Blair, NE. After World War II, they settled in Blair, where they raised their family and Clark practiced law until his death in May 1979. They had two sons, John Reed in 1946, and David Clark in 1948. While in Blair, Ellie was active in the community, serving as chairman of the Red Cross Blood Bank, PTA, Hospital Auxiliary, and the Blair Library Board. She served as National Committeewoman of the Nebraska Young Republicans. She was a member of PEO Chapter EQ in Blair, which honored her as a 50-year member in 1991. She also enjoyed substitute teaching at Blair High School for many years. On June 3, 1989, she married David Noble, a life-long friend and former fraternity brother of Clark’s. They lived in Sioux City, IA. After David’s death in 2001, she returned to Blair to be closer to family and friends. Ellie was a social butterfly who loved spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader and swimmer, and a huge fan of Husker football. She spent many summers at Lake Okoboji in Iowa and many winters in Palm Springs, CA. In her later years, she loved spending time with her great-grandchildren, and was particularly thrilled to share her birthday with great-granddaughter Maggie. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clark, husband David, and son John. She is survived by her son, David of Blair, NE, daughter-in-law, Paula, of Blair, NE, grandchildren Megan O’Hanlon Coffey and husband Sean Coffey of Omaha, NE, and Reed O’Hanlon of Blair, NE, great-grandchildren Maggie, Colleen, and John Coffey of Omaha, NE, step-son Dr. David Noble and wife Eloise of Sioux City, IA, step-daughter Judith Colbert and husband Robert of Athens, GA, and step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Blair Public Library, 210 South 17th Street, Blair, NE 68008 or to First United Methodist Church, 1656 Colfax Street, Blair, NE 68008.
