Albert “Gus” D. Boyce age 89 of Blair died January 6, 2014 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday January 10, 2013 at Campbell Aman Funeral Home. Interment will follow services in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday beginning at 2:00PM with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Albert “Gus” Boyce was born the eldest of 12 children on June 24th, 1924 in Dunlap, Iowa to Albert E. and Mary F. (Woodard) Boyce. He was raised and attended school in the rural Dunlap area. After his schooling he worked for his father on the family farm. He served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army. After attending the Washington County Fair he moved to Blair. On May 24th, 1949 he was united in marriage to Velma Salbury in Blair. After the wedding the couple made their home in Blair. He was employed with Redi-mix in Blair as a driver for over 25 years, he retired at the age of 62. He ran a saw and blade sharpening business at his home and enjoyed training his grandson so he could one day take over the business. Gus was always known to be a very hard worker. Gus as a lifetime member of the Blair VFW, the AMVETS, Cooties and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Velma of Blair; sons Darrell (Debi) Boyce of Herman, Bill Boyce of Washington State, and Dale Boyce of Wahoo, 4 grandchildren, 5 greatgrandchildren; sisters Dorothy and Ruth of Dunlap, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, step daughter Rosetta and son George “Butch”.
